“Please don’t attack”: smuggled footage

From Democracy Now: The Images Israel didn’t want seen – Video and Photographs from the Gaza-bound Aid Convoy

In the wake of the commando raid that left nine dead, the Israeli government confiscated every recording and communication device it could find–thus allowing the state to control what the world learned about the assault.

Democracy Now! has interviewed some of the reporters, filmmakers, and photographers who managed to smuggle out some of their images.

The Sydney Morning Herald’s Paul McGeough and Kate Geraghty Were on the Challenger I–another one of the ships that was in the Freedom Flotilla along with the Mavi Marmara. Photographer Kate Geraghty took hundreds of photographs, most of which were confiscated by the IDF.

Watch the interview with Paul McGeough and Kate Geraghty and see a few of her photographs here.

Filmmaker and activist Iara Lee was one of the few Americans on-board the Mavi Marmara. Her equipment was confiscated but she managed to smuggle out an hour’s worth of footage. Watch the footage on Democracy Now where this article is orginally posted.

Where are Kate Geraghty’s photographs?? the link in this message does not connect. I have followed through to the video interviews, where there is a further link to her photographs, but that too returns to the video interview, and no photographs seem to be viewable.
Have they been removed? or is there a further site?

I don’t know – I’m a bit mystified by that as well. I think the link has just been lost on the Democracy Now page; I think actually I have seen Kate’s photos elsewhere (on an Australian news page possibly) and they were all photos of boat scenes – prayers etc – prior to the attack rather than during, she had the during ones confiscated.

Where is video with Mavi Marmara people trying to kill Israeli soldiers?

    • talestotell Says:

All the flotilla boat passengers report that all five boats suffered unprovoked attack by Israeli commandos and that commandos had already fired live ammunition which hit passengers, before they boarded the Mavi Marmara. One passenger was already dead from a bullet through the top of his head, fired from the Israeli helicopter, before the boarding occurred. In this context a small number of people on the ferry can be seen mounting a defence as soldiers boarded. This footage is in various places around the net. What is far more surprising is that the vast majority of the hundreds of international passengers on the five boats somehow managed not to respond to this violent attack, in international waters far from Israel, with anything other than nonviolent resistance.
